Coaching

‘Coaching is an intentional ongoing conversation that empowers a person or team to fully live out their potential – in their life and profession’.

~Keith Webb, Creative Results Management

The goal of coaching is for you to discover new things about yourself, and take action to reshape your life around that learning.

An effective coaching relationship will lead to insights, enhanced awareness, changed behaviours, and results that satisfy you.

Much is expected of you: to evaluate, reason, imagine, decide, and implement.

What Coaching is

Coaching is about you

Your goals, your learning, and your growth.

Coaching is about learning

Rather than teaching. You are the expert on your life. It is your coach's job to listen carefully, ask open questions, encourage, challenge, and remain supportive. All to help you gain insights and take action.

Coaching is about action

Your action. Each session you will determine 1-3 actions steps you will take before the next session. If you're determined to achieve your goals, you may be surprised at how quickly you make progress.

Coaching is about all of you

Not just your work or career. The process of changing old habits and thinking patterns can be challenging. Your coach will be able to recognise these patterns and will support you as you grow and change.

What coaching is not

It’s not counselling

Although many of the communication techniques are the same, like active listening, reflecting, use of questions, limited advice giving, etc., counselling therapy focuses on the past to bring healing and unblock a person to move ahead. Coaching is future and action-oriented, for people who are basically clear of psychological and emotional issues.

It’s not training

In training, the trainer sets the agenda. Changing behaviour comes from outside the participant, via the trainer. In coaching, you set the agenda. A coach motivates you to change from within by using adult learning principles of self-discovery.

It’s not mentoring

A mentor is an expert in a particular field who imparts their expertise to others. They provide knowledge, advice, guidance, correction, and encouragement to younger or less experienced colleagues. A mentor may use coaching techniques, but they typically act as advisors and teachers, imparting knowledge and wisdom.

It’s not authoritarian

A coach will challenge you beyond your expectations while maintaining a high level of support. Control remains in your hands. It is up to you to decide and take action.

Why does coaching work?

Coaching is effective because it brings out your best. The work of a coach is to support you in the creation of your own best answers.

You can expect your coach to do the following during coaching sessions:

  • Listen. It is your story that matters most. Your coach fully engages with what you have to say.

  • Ask questions. Your coach will ask you questions in order to ignite your creative thinking. Future possibilities are often at the core of questions.

  • Encourage. We all need encouragement, but often we don’t receive enough of it. Your coach will help you stay focused on your vision, progress, and efforts.

  • Facilitate while letting you lead. In addition to helping you solve problems, a coach facilitates your learning. However, they are never entirely directing - you are, with your objectives and approach.

What People Are Saying

Julie has coached me through many roadblocks, decisions and life transitions, and I would not be who I am today without her. In every coaching conversation, she helps me clarify my thinking, and I leave feeling encouraged, re-focused and committed to action.

Julie is professional, wise, caring and discerning, and her deep listening and insightful questions are truly priceless because they challenge me to think differently about my situation and what is possible.

Direct results of my coaching sessions with Julie include a two month solo cycling trip in New Zealand and a recent commitment to formalise my business and build a website for it. I wouldn’t have done those things without her.

Julie helps people uncover what God has put in them to be and to do: reach out to her if you’re ready to have transformative conversations.

Development Consultant | USA / Cambodia

I am grateful for my coaching with Julie at a time where I was under a lot of pressure because the business was struggling and I was experiencing personal turmoil.

Julie created space for me to reflect on the current situation, she helped me to show more grace to myself, and through her support, she guided me to a place where I was able to make a life-changing decision.

I highly appreciate Julie's compassion, empathy and patience within her professional coaching.

Even now, years later, I am still benefiting from this coaching.

I had Life Coaching with Julie for a few months in 2023. It was the best experience and I saw real change in my life.

Julie was a safe person to talk to, and was able to challenge my false thinking. This allowed me to achieve things that I had previously thought to be ‘too hard’.

She was extremely organised, professional, and her communication was always clear.

I could not recommend Julie highly enough for anyone who is considering Life Coaching.
